Girl Friday Breakfast Club with Irma Eloff on Friday 28 September

The Girl Friday Breakfast Club, established by Kate Reynolds and Anita Taylor, aims to provide a friendly and informal space for women to meet, chat, and support each other. There is no agenda other than hearing from an interesting woman speaker, eating breakfast and drinking great coffee or tea together in Studio Cafe at Drawing Projects UK on the last Friday of each month from 8:00am to 10:00am.

On Friday 28 September, our guest speaker will be Irma Eloff, Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Irma Eloff is the founder and lead facilitator of the continental African Deans of Education Forum (ADEF). She serves on the UNESCO International Task Team for Teacher Education. She was the seventh dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Pretoria and also the first woman to hold this position. In 2012 she was chosen amongst the top three Most Influential Women in Business and Government in South Africa - in the Education category.

Irma is an NRF-rated researcher, a registered psychologist and she has received several awards for her research in Education and Educational Psychology. She has been a visiting Associate Professor at Yale University during 2001-2002 and she has lectured across the globe on themes of positive psychology, early intervention, inclusive education and HIV & AIDS.

Irma has published more than 55 academic articles and book chapters and 45 master’s and doctoral students have completed their studies under her supervision. She has also co-authored the book, Life Skills & Assets and she is also co-editor of the book Keys to Educational Psychology. Her research focuses on wellbeing, positive psychology and sustainable development – with specific reference to quality education in the global context. She has been a visiting professor at Yale University, Universität Innsbruck, Rhodes University, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, CPUT Wellington, Bath Spa University, and Fordham University in New York.
