Girl Friday Breakfast Club with Mandy Bonnell on Friday 28 December 2018

On Friday 28 December 2018 our Girl Friday Breakfast Club guest speaker will be the artist Mandy Bonnell who specialises in drawing and print, and in the early 1990’s helped establish a self-sustaining print workshop in Lamu, Kenya, with the support of the British Council.

For the last seven years Mandy has researched traditions in botanicals and herbariums whilst on various residencies in the US (at the Albers Foundation, in 2009 and 2014, and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in 2013). Her unique boxed collections of drawings, collages and botanical samples, and editioned artist’s books, were featured in a major exhibition Of Green Leaf Bird and Flower at the Yale Center for British Art in 2014.

Mandy has had 14 solo exhibitions to date, including the RaMoma, Museum of Modern Art, Nairobi and four shows with the Eagle Gallery London. Her work is held in many public collections including the Ashmoleum Museum, Oxford; British Council, Kenya; British High Commission, Nairobi; British Library: Modern British Collections; Berry and Coutts Co., London; Fidelity, London; Fitch and Co., London; RaMoma, Museum of Modern Art, Kenya; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Yale Center of British Art. We were lucky enough to show Mandy’s artist’s book, Eloise Butler’s Wildflower Garden at Drawing Projects UK earlier in the year in From the Ground, a two person exhibition with James Brooks.

Please book your Girl Friday Breakfast in advance, so we know how many to cater for!

The Girl Friday Breakfast Club was established by Kate Reynolds and Anita Taylor to provide a friendly and informal space for women to meet, chat, and support each other. There is no agenda other than hearing from an interesting woman speaker, eating breakfast and drinking great coffee or tea together in Studio Cafe at Drawing Projects UK on the last Friday of each month from 8:00am to 10:00am. All women, and those who identify as women, are very welcome to join the Girl Friday Breakfast Club.
