Around the World - from 14 July to 4 August

From 14 July to 4 August 2018 the exhibition Around the World will be on show at Drawing Projects UK, in association with the Active Trowbridge Annual Festival and Explore Art Trowbridge events on Saturday 14 July.

Featuring a range of artists and makers from around the world making work in response to people, place and events across the world. Works by Alice Couttoupes, Gary Lawrence, Sandra Porter, Tim Vyner and others will enable visitors to reflect on a range of perspectives and artistic responses to place, experience and identity. As an act and activity, drawing intrinsically enables us all to visualise ideas, and to see the world anew.

The exhibition will feature illustrator Tim Vyner’s recent project in association with the FIFA World Cup 2018, the Street Child World Cup, where 24 teams and over 200 street-connected children came together in Moscow for their own international football tournament, festival of arts and Congress for their rights. Tim Vyner’s animations are a record of this dynamic and colourful event exhibited in Moscow at the Amber Plaza, where these young people made their voices heard, calling for the rights of millions of children surviving on the streets worldwide. Tim Vyner is currently documenting the World Cup for The Telegraph, and you can see his drawings appear on the back page of the newspaper each day for the duration of the tournament. Each artist explores the theme in different ways; Sandra Porter uses architectural structures in Scotland to inform her large-scale abstract drawings, Alice Couttoupes works with clay to explore socio-cultural and political notions of identity within an Australian context, while Gary Lawrence's drawing reflects on the Brexit vote in 2016.

Around the World is held in association with Active Trowbridge and its annual Active Festival in Trowbridge Park. Explore Art Trowbridge, is a collaboration between the cultural venues of the county town, and presents co-produced events throughout the year that highlight the creative and cultural offer in Trowbridge. For the Active Festival, Explore Art Trowbridge (EAT) is presenting Creative Trowbridge from 10am to 4pm, a trail of creative activities commencing at Trowbridge Park, where Trowbridge Museum have a stand, to Court Street Gallery and Town Hall Arts between 10am and 2pm, and Drawing Projects UK. There will be an associated Drawing Session at Drawing Projects UK from 2-3.30pm and a Drawing Discussion at 4pm with Anita Taylor on this exhibition and, also, the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize project. These events are kindly supported by Bath Spa University.

Around the World is a free exhibition open to the public on Saturday 14 July from 11am to 4pm and Sunday 15 July from 11am to 1pm.
